Parish Councillors

Findon Parish Council has 11 Councillors actively working to serve the Village and preserve the unique and historic lifestyle that this charming downland village offers.  They work with strong links to Arun District Council, West Sussex County Council and the South Downs National Park Authority, and each member plays an important role on the various committees they sit on.

Members of the Parish Council:

Cllr Robin Carr - Chairman:

A practising solicitor, Robin moved to Findon in 1989, joining the Parish Council in 2000.  Robin is Chairman of the Open Spaces Committee and as such dedicates much of his time to ensuring that the landscape and natural habitat of the village is maintained.  Robin is a firm believer of 'leading by example' and can often be found  'travelling'  the numerous public footpaths / bridleways to ensure they are passable, clearing overhanging branches, removing ivy and collecting litter on his travels.

Sean Smith - Deputy Chairman

Cllr Clive BallClive Ball is known to many as the chap who walks the Bearded Collie early in the morning with his wife, Corrine.

Clive has great affection for the village, having lived there since 1988 and his family of 3 sons, now in their 20’s have been brought up here since birth.

Professionally, Clive is an electrical controls engineer working in the Energy sector who has experience of man management, running projects within the construction industry to both time and monetary budgets. His current role is one of Manager Key Account manager, which includes relationship management, the costing and pricing £M+ contracts. This brings a commercial pragmatism ie what one can and can’t do within fiscal constraints.

Before becoming a Parish Councillor in September 2014, Clive was already an active member of the Findon Sheep Fair Committee for the previous 5 years, in particular for general logistics, planning and budgeting.

Cllr Peter Goldsworthy

Peter & Anne moved to Findon in 1994 from Bedfordshire. Peter spent 1993 in digs while he searched for a house, having been appointed Executive Director to manage the building and running of Goring Hall Hospital. He joined the council in 1998, and was elected Chairman in May 2007. A keen but average golfer, he has served as a Director of Worthing Golf Club for the last 5 years, while trying to spend time with his 4 grandchildren.

Peter is proud to have led and served on such an active, dedicated and committed group of councillors, but stepped down as Chairman in May 2017, his 10th year of Chairmanship.

Cllr John Havenhand:

John has been actively involved with the Neighbourhood Plan, sitting as a key member of the steering committee co-ordinating the consultation stategy.  John will also join the Finance and Planning committees of the Parish Council.
John started his working life as a mechanical engineer but later studied for a degree in History and Politics.  He then trained as a school teacher and lecturer teaching mainly economics.  For over 20 years John was the Head of Worthing Adult Education Centre and then appointed Dean at Northbrook College.  He has been married for over 35 years and has three grown up children, two grandchildren and two dogs!  He is interested in current affairs, classic motorcycles and enjoys discussion, debate and argument with friends over a glass or two of beer and wine.  Since taking retirement John has been active as a Local Consumer Advocate for customers of the water companies and is a Regional Council Member for London and the South East of the Consumer Council For Water (the industry watchdog).

Cllr Del Henty:

Del (originally from Burgess Hill) and his wife Pam moved to Findon in 1994 after thirty seven years service in the army. Now co-opted into the Parish Council, Del is particularly interested in the good maintenance of roads, footpaths ,verges etc, and therefore has been made a member of the open spaces committee. Del is also keen to ensure that the opinions of those living on the edge of the parish (eg The Quadrangle, North End etc) are represented.

Cllr Jan Mackerell;

I have been in Findon for over 27 years now and feel this is where I really belong. We have moved three times within the Village as our daughters progressed through the village playgroup, school, church groups, youth clubs, Angmering School and then left for university and the London life.

I am proud to have been actively involved in the community throughout the past 27 years and I have served on the Parish Council for around 12 years now, contributing on a range of the sub-committees. I want to see Findon remain a living village maintaining a strong sense of community and the distinctive character that events such as the Sheep Fair help to provide.'
